Collesalvetti,
originally an
ancient Roman
settlement, then a
medieval fief and busy
agricultural village, is set
in a wonderful natural
environment, surrounded
by hills, woods and
Mediterranean scrub.
The Livorno Hills Park,
a protected natural area
which extends between
Collesalvetti, Livorno
and Rosignano, a sort
of fossilised island which
emerged in relatively
recent times, contains
many botanical,
geological and
archaeological wonders.
The area around
Collesalvetti is rich with
traditions and contains
numerous villages with
a wealth of history.
At Torretta Vecchia are
the ruins of a Roman
mansio dating back to
the first half of the I
century B.C., where a
large porticoed courtyard
surrounded by the
remains of rooms with
mosaic floors and thermal
baths can be seen.
The mansio was anancient rest halt built at
the time of the opening of
the Via Aemilia.
Situated in the splendid
natural environment that
characterises this part
of the Costa degli Etruschi
are numerous holiday
farms offering quality
services and equipped to
provide opportunities
for interesting excursions
or practice sports.
The tasty cuisine is based
on game, fresh pasta,
vegetables and locally
produced specialties such
as cured meats and
cheeses.
Quality wines and olive oil
are produced along this
part of the Costa degli
Etruschi crossed by
the Wine Route.
Its closeness to the sea
and the art cities makes
Collesalvetti a good base
for holidays full of variety.
Many interesting cultural
events, especially musical,
take place all throughout
the year.
