the living crib
Rosignano Marittimo (before christmas)
On the days leading to Christmas Eve there's an enchanting atmosphere in the stone-paved lanes of Rosignano and inside its ancient castle.
Over 150 living characters, centurions, roman knights, shepherds and sellers, together with the main characters of the Nativity scene, reproduce a new Bethlehem.
This is one of the most atmospheric living cribs of the birth of the baby Jesus related according to the story handed down by the Evangelists.
This reproduction brings ancient customs and works back to life. All the inhabitants of Rosignano Marittimo participate in the scenes of the living crib.
This ancient village situated on top of a hill was built in about the 10th century and fortified by the Medicis.
It overlooks the sea and the hills all around.
