Fish dishes from the Piombino coast are known for their quality ingredients and traditional recipes.
Fish are caught daily along the coast and around the Tuscan Archipelago, and cooked in original, tasty ways.
Baked or grilled seafood, white fish and oily fish, boiled octopus, squid in spicy olive oil, stockfish
and potatoes, and "cacciucco" (the local fish stew) are only some of the dishes served in the area’s
numerous restaurants and wine bars, often overlooking the sea.
But if fish is king, food from the countryside - soups, game and vegetables such as the characteristic
violet artichokes - is just as tasty.
Meat from locally-raised Chianina cattle is highly prized and usually
served grilled. The excellent wines and extra-virgin olive oil go well with all dishes.
