This is an important sea event that takes place in spring every year. First held in 1981 it has become a permanent attraction in the Italian sailing calendar ever since.
It recalls the maritime and sailing traditions of the town. The Naval Academy of Livorno, an esteemed hundred-year-old training school for officers of the Italian Navy, is the promoter of regattas that attract 600 sailing-boats, 2000 participants and the best crews and skippers from all over the world.
The colours of the sails standing out against the April sky seem to stain the cobalt-blue sea. 75 regattas with 14 classes in 9 different areas take part simultaneously.
Numerous cultural, social and artistic events form part of the occasion thus connecting the land and the sea.
