Val di Cornia's DOC
wines, together with those
from Bolgheri,
Montescudaio and
Bibbona, are typical of the
prestigious, quality wines
produced along the Costa
degli Etruschi.
In addition
to the more traditional
vines planted along the
Wine Route, pinot bianco
and grigio, clairette,
ciliegiolo and ansonica
grapes can also be found,
proof of the wine
producers' versatility.
The
extra-virgin olive oil
produced by local growers
is also of excellent quality.
Along the Wine Route are
farmhouses, agricultural
holdings and farm holiday
centres where local
produce and gastronomic
specialties such as game,
fruit and vegetables,
honey, grappa, salami,
cured meats and cheeses
can be purchased.
A place of honour is
reserved for the
"Campiglia Schiaccia", a
cake with ancient origins
which boasts the DOP
(protected origin) mark.
Feasts, fests and
gastronomic events offer
tastes of the area's wide
range of food and wine.
